A Woman’s Worth: Why I Won’t Put My Kids First and Why You Shouldn’t Either

 My Worth

Do you know that mom that gave everything to her babies? It is the same woman that put her children before her God, her husband, and herself. She started to see her worth in her children. Her kids were doing well in school. She felt joy. Her kids were failing. She felt depressed. Her worth was tied to her kids, her every thought went to worrying about her children. Would they make the right decision? What if they couldn’t solve their own problem?

She wanted a phone call every day. She felt unloved without them. If the hundreds of dollars she spent on the newest gadgets and baby Einstein CDs weren’t making her baby talk by a certain age, then she felt defeated.

I don’t want to be that mom. God will provide me with my joy and happiness. My husband and I will remain the most important people on Earth to one another because he will be next to me when my babies are out of the house. I need to also love myself, although this one usually gets pushed far, far down the line of priority.

I Will Love Them

This doesn’t mean that I will not dedicate myself to my children. I will nurture them. I will love them until my heart bursts. We will cry together when they have drama at school, and hopefully we will have a lot more laughs at all the awesome things that happened. They will know just how much I adore them, but they will also know that I love God and daddy.

I want them to see me praise my God and worship him. They need to see me live out the life God wants me to by loving my husband, as he and I are one. I want them to see their daddy taking me out on dates. They need to see what a healthy relationship looks like. They surely will not get it from the media.

Our world wants successful people. It rejects those that are not considered “successful.” Therefore, my babies need to know that they are not tied to my happiness based on their “success” level. They already have enough pressures from the society they live in. On the contrary, I want them to know that I will always be happy because they are simply mine. They will know that I know that God has an amazing plan for them, and those plans are so much more grandeur than the aspirations I have for them.

Our kids should not be the center of our universe. We shall not slave over their desires. They need to grow as independent, confident human beings, and I would love to see more of this in my own kids and also the kids in my classrooms.

  1. I love this! I think this is a great message for our kids to grasp, they are not the center of the universe!
