{Check out the rest of our San Diego Series here}

There are so many things to do and enjoy in Ramona. If you ever get tired of the fast pace life in the city, come visit us and experience a bit of country living in San Diego. No need to head out to Julian all the time (wink wink face).

Farms:

If you have gotten to learn anything about me in the past blogs, it’s that I have a passion for gardening. So how lucky am I, that there are still a few local farms that have been able to maintain their doors open. Stop by and support them. Buy fresh, organic produce and experience a local farm.

Grebar Farms

Is a family owned farm and it’s the place everyone around here brags about when it comes to strawberries- or any berries in fact. Stop in Wed-Sat during the Spring, Summer or Fall for fresh picked fruit and veggies.

Connelly Farms

Come say hi to Farmer Tim, and while you are there, say hello to his two farm dogs and pick up seasonal fruit and produce. Personally I enjoy the fact that Tim is passionate when it comes to educating people about farming and gardening. During the Spring I always stop by and pick up a few of his seedlings, they never disappoint. (Open for the season Sat-Sun)

Dinning:

There are many places to eat in Ramona, here are a few of our family’s favorites.

Marinade on Main

Our number one Date Night place! A quaint little joint where the term farm to table is seen in their ever changing menu options. I’m in love with their rustic decor, fried shrimp salad and selection of local beers.

Pete’s BBQ

Literally a hole in the wall place. Located inside a convenience store, this place rocks it with a smoker in the parking lot and delicious smoked meat filled aromas for blocks on end. My hubby’s favorite thing to eat there is their brisket California burrito.

Ramona Family Naturals

Not only is this place the local “Health food store” but you can get delicious soups made daily or one of their boxed lunches to take with you to a local winery. Their menu and food is not just about home cooked comfort meals, but about healthy yummy options.

Shops:

Ramona is filled with antique shoppes! You can pretty much find anything in one of our local shops. There’s Rangeland Home and Resurrected Rustic where you will be enticed with home decor and beautifully re-purposed furniture. Or hop over to the Mason Jar just to see fun trinkets and peruse the store. One of our most recent additions to Main St. has been Casa Rustica, where you can find an array of beautiful pottery. If you just take a moment or two to walk Main St. you will come across many hidden gems, too many to mention here.

Things to do, places to See:

ramona potato chip rockYou might already be familiar with some of our local KEY places to visit, such as Dos Picos, or hike up Potato Chip Rock; but have you heard of our local camel ranch? At Oasis Camel Dairy, you find rare camel milk products and a hands on experience. It’s a pretty awesome place to take the kids and ride a camel (be sure to check out their OPEN dates).

There’s plenty of things to do and see, such as camping at Dos Picos, or hiking the Grasslands. Maybe you or your spouse are avid golfers and want to come up here to see our “greens”. Take a day off and come relax by picking up lunch and heading to our 30+ local wineries. If you don’t like wine it’s okay, we have two breweries and a distillery too.

Mostly I’d like to convince you to slow your pace for the day, and head out here to Ramona. Visit a winery or two, have a delicious meal, walk and shop around. And while you are at it, look up. Yes! look around at our many murals around town. Ramona HEART murals is a group of local people and business that have a passion for art and our town. They have beautified the buildings around Main St. with murals that tell a story, the story of Ramona.
