MLK Day of Service at Children’s Nature Retreat Foundation

When: Monday, January 20th
Time: 10am-3pm
Location: Children’s Nature Retreat, 5178 Japatul Spur, Alpine, CA 91901

In honor of Martin Luther King’s National Day of Service, SDMB Cares is partnering to help beautify the Children’s Nature Retreat. The Children’s Nature Retreat is a 20-acre farm, animal sanctuary and nature reserve in Alpine, CA, with over 130 domestic livestock’s and exotic animals. Talk about a volunteer activity I think every kid will love?!

This volunteer activity is perfect for the entire family, as we help beautify this incredible retreat that benefits both animals and local San Diego families. (Kids under 6 from SDMB Community are welcome, if coming with an older sibling) Lunch will be available at $10/adult and $5/child OR bring a sack lunch!

Volunteer activities include (but are not limited to)
– Cleaning barn and pastures
– Grooming horses
– Pathways have ruts from the heavy rains that need to be filled with gravel
– Mulch needs to be spread along the pathways to keep the weeds down
-Olive tree maze needs to be completed

The Prince Purple Madness Tribute Show have all but perfected every last nuance in recreating the sights and sounds of the artist Prince.

It is with great honor and utmost reverence that The Prince Tribute Band was formed. For anyone who wasn’t fortunate enough to have witnessed a Prince live show, the experience was undeniably one of the best live performances on the planet. La Jolla Music Society Launches Family Concerts kicking off with Jazzy Ash & The Leaping Lizards

When: Saturday, February 1st (YES we know this is February, we just wanted to get this on your radar!)

Jazzy Ash invites the whole family to come along on a Crescent City-inspired, jazzy musical adventure with her band, the Leaping Lizards. Jazzy Ash’s songs celebrate the magic of movement, with a lot of sugar and sass thrown in, New Orleans-style. She brings high energy to her shows and makes sure that the audience feels like a part of the band, “favoring call-and-response lyrics, dance moves and just about anything else that will get children out of their seats.” – LA Times

The 10th Annual San Diego Beer Fest

The 10th annual San Diego Beer Fest returns to Liberty Station, and promising another fun filled day with beer, food trucks, and music. The event will feature dozens of local local and international craft beers, as well as San Diego’s most popular food trucks (food sold separately).

Hillcrest Farmers Market

The Hillcrest Farmers Market is filled with over 175 vendors offering a wide variety of locally grow produce, gifts, arts and crafts, flowers, clothing, and more! Over 10,000 people a week visit our market. Many of our local farmers grow their produce organically or with no pesticides. The market also hosts a large variety of prepared and hot food items with an emphasis on international cuisine. We also host weekly entertainment performed by a variety of local musicians. Sensory Sunday Family Time with Hullabaloo

In collaboration with Autism Society of San Diego, Mission Valley Library welcomes families with children on the spectrum to a sensory-friendly show featuring the band Hullabaloo. Recommended for children ages 3-9, this program will showcase upbeat music that will get kids moving and grooving. After the performance, families can explore the library, check out items, or enjoy the outdoor patio. Regular Sunday hours for the general public start at 12:30. No registration is required.

Ocean Beach Kids Day Out

Fun, sun, and exercise. Music provided. No charge. Meet in front of the San Diego Air and Space Museum and start at 10:30am sharp. This event started a dance walk movement that people love. The purpose of our group is to have fun, be outdoors, enjoy spontaneously moving to the music, connect with others and have a fabulous time. Come join us and have a blast!!
