Because Every Picture Tells a Story

I currently have over 25,000 photos on my phone, and yes, I realize I might have a problem (lol). I have always loved taking pictures and when I had my daughter Kaialani (2.5), my love for photos exponentially increased, to what quite possibly may be an obsession. To me, my photographs are so much more than just a picture, it’s documenting a moment and memory that will last forever.

I truly love capturing every moment of her little life.  I don’t have family close by, so photographs are how I share those moments with them, and when I am bored at night I scroll through the pictures and they truly just make me so happy. Maybe around photo 12,298 my daughter decided she is not too happy when Mom takes pictures anymore. So capturing that special moment has become slightly more difficult, but that being said, I still manage to capture each moment. And sometimes her screaming “No!” at the camera is just as fun to capture.

“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.” – Aaron Siskind

So when I scheduled a ‘Mommy and Me’ photo session with Katherine Beth Photography recently, I was really scared Kaia would likely just waste the money I spent to have the photos taken because I–in essence–have made “taking pictures” not fun anymore! But, boy oh boy was I wrong. Katherine truly has a special gift, and that gift is in connecting with children and creating and capturing moments I will treasure for the rest of my life.

Katherine wears many hats like most moms. She is on both our San Diego Moms Blog Photography and Contributor teams, and for her “day job” she runs a Lifestyle Wedding & Portrait Photography Business with over 10 years experience. Throughout her career, the only constant has been photographing families. It was a natural fit for her, as she always wanted to be a mother, had a great family unit growing up, and she just found joy in photographing families.

“For me, photographing families as I’m now a mom myself {still can’t believe that’s my title}, isn’t much different, because I could always connect with kids. What’s made it different and better is I understand the parents more and can relate to them, and I value my time more as I have a little waiting for me at home! My favorite part of photographing families is just watching them interact with each other, and the pride and joy that comes from every little thing. I love to ask the kids to look at their parents and say I love you. Their faces light up and the parents melt. It’s the best.”

The connection and comfortability Katherine created during our session was truly magical. Kaia was doing ring around the rosey with her, singing to her, placing her hand on her hips like she was a seasoned model – I was literally in shock and so thankful. The experience working with her was top notch–oh, and her pictures are AMAZING.

If you are on the fence about booking a session, remember this. Photographs last forever, they make amazing gifts (holiday card season is around the corner!) and your children will thank you later for having them done. I know this because we didn’t have many family photos and I wish we had more.

Contact Katherine today for more information on availability and rates. Mention SDMB for 5 extra digital photos to any package if you book in the next two weeks!
