Whether you want it to be or not, Summer is right around the corner! It’s time to start planning ahead for your kiddos and what they will be doing to keep themselves busy this Summer. We have so many awesome activities lined up in this guide, make sure to share it with your friends so you can sign up your kiddos for fun activities together! A special thanks to Robolink, Inc., Diversionary Theatre, iD Tech and our other sponsors to making this guide a fun-filled resource for our families!
Robolink is an education startup that teaches programming skills with robots and drones. We create our own kits, and we also run our own classes. Robolink operates two learning centers in California and our products have been featured in CNET, Mashable and other industry-leading publications! We’ve personally taught over 7000 students, and have reached tens of thousands of students throughout the world with our kits. We are raising the innovators and makers of tomorrow.
Diversionary Theatre is proud to present Teen-Versionary, our first teen acting summer camp exploring the LGBT experience.
Teen-Versionary is unique, producing a new play comprised of LGBT teens and their allies, creating a safe space to creatively explore the story and characters. Through a two week intensive rehearsal process, the teen ensemble will get a taste of a professional theatre process in a fast paced environment where a new play is fully produced on our mainstage in two weeks.
This summer’s show: queerSpawn tells the story of The Kid, a fourteen-year-old starting high school in a small town. Everyone knows he has two moms, and that’s just the beginning of his trouble. While dodging bullies, The Kid conjures imaginary allies in this provocative, hilarious and poignant new play takes an unflinching look at what it means to be a teen today, and the persisting stigma around the LGBT identity.
Folks aged 13 to recent high school graduates are welcome to apply for a position in Teen-Versionary. Anyone who wants to feel part of something special to apply is encouraged to apply. Because of the advance timeline, some theatrical experience is also encouraged, but not prerequisite.
Tuition: $400 for two weeks. Some Full and Partial Scholarships are available.
At iD Tech Camps, students ages 7-17 learn to code, design video games, produce videos, mod Minecraft, create with Roblox, engineer robots, model and print 3D characters, work with AI and machine learning, build laptops, learn about cybersecurity, and more! Weeklong, day and overnight summer programs that instill in-demand skills and embolden students to shape the future.
Locations: USCD, USD and Cal State San Marcos.
